How can I get involved in my community? How can I make a difference?
There are hundreds of ways that we can all make a contribution to our communities. From being part of a Parent Teachers Association, to undertaking voluntary work in a hospice or with a young offenders support group; from sharing our skills with others, to standing for election to the Council or Assembly, you can make a difference. I’m convinced that many people shy away from making their contribution because they don’t feel they have the skills or the ability or the confidence - that someone else is always better suited to do what needs to be done. I believe we all have something to give. Do you care passionately about a part of your community? About the litter where you live or the safety of the roads for your children? Do you object to how difficult it is to get a dental appointment, or think you have a solution to a problem in your street? Do you worry about your pension, or the ability of first time buyers to get their first home?
This is politics. It’s a debate about our lives. It’s for all of us - not just politicians. Everyone has a right to have their voice heard. As ’The Amazing Mrs Pritchard’ says in the BBC drama, Politics isn’t rocket science
