To quote Friday’s Echo,

"The sitting AM’s majority was cut by 2,000 votes to 2,754 thanks to a massively improved showing by the Welsh Conservative candidate Karen Robson."

As I said in my speech on Thursday night/Friday morning, this is a great result for the Welsh Conservatives and shows that the Welsh Conservatives are a strong force in Cardiff South and Penarth. This result gives us a strong platform to work from and the task now is to continue to use the momentum to ensure that the next AM is a Conservative one.

In case you missed the declaration and speeches on TV I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my sincere thanks. So many people supported me over the last year to make this result possible and some of those over the election campaign committed to working 19 hour days to ensure the best result possible. Colleagues and family took time off work, supported my campaign financially and worked tirelessly to make sure that the people of Cardiff South and Penarth had the opportunity of being represented by a Welsh Conservative.

I’d also like to thank all of you—the voters in Cardiff South and Penarth who placed their trust in me. I took that show of trust seriously and had I been successful I would have worked tirelessly to represent your interests. My work in the constituency is far from over and now the election is over I will be campaigning hard to fight for a number of issues that arose before and during the campaign. I will update the website as developments occur.

As of Tuesday 8th May I will be back at work at UWIC in my role as Head of Disability. Finally I would like to thank my university for the support they have given me throughout this rollercoaster year, but a special thanks go to my team, my boss Rob Cummings and Anneliese Morgan, my deputy, who gave me continual support, encouragement and assistance in enabling me to carry out the job I love along side working as a candidate. As I discovered being a candidate does not only have a massive impact on your own life, but that of many others around you. Their support and that of others made my ambition possible.

Over the last year I have met many wonderful, inspiring people and I hope that you will continue to follow my progress in trying to make a difference in my community, as I will continue to follow you. I also hope you will stay in touch and let me know about issues that affect you. This campaign was always about achieving Social Justice and ensuring equality of opportunity for everyone in Cardiff South and Penarth. The election may be over but the work is not...

Best wishes to you all
